Public Advisory: Evacuation Order Lifted for Affected Areas in the Town of Badger

The village of Fort Simpson lifted the evacuation alert as of 3 p.m. on Friday, less than a week after the evacuation order was downgraded to an alert on July 18. Residents were returning home, but a village notice advised caution because wildfire-related hazards may still exist.

Two Newfoundland towns—Badger and Trepassey—lifted their evacuation order and state of emergency after improved weather conditions. Badger’s evacuation order ended with a continued state of emergency unclear, while Trepassey’s state of emergency ended after surging seas damaged the breakwater and left a nearly impassable road.

The Town of Badger has lifted its evacuation order, allowing residents to return home, with RCMP and Newfoundland and Labrador Ground Search and Rescue on site to manage traffic and safety.
